Relaxation/Meditation CD Released by Yoga Teacher

Saratoga Business Journal article October 2004

Lisa Temoshok, a yoga instructor based in the Capital Region of New York State, has just released a relaxation/meditation CD entitled, "Sacred Awakening." The 45-minute CD includes breathing techniques, gentle movement and guided meditation—all of which combine to produce a unique state of deep relaxation and alert awareness known as "yoga nidra."

Yoga ("union") Nidra ("sleep") is ancient practice that guides the listener through levels of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual awareness in order to let go of stress and tension and nurture well-being. "The benefits of this practice are felt right away—a calmness of mind, a relaxed body and a heightened sense of mental concentration," Temoshok says.

"Sacred Awakening" is already receiving positive reviews across the region and beyond; orders have been placed from as far away as Canada and the Netherlands. Yoga instructor Michele Greico Hackett writes, "There is an elegance and grace in this luscious flow into nothingness—a marvelous reprieve that¹s perfect for coming back to a place of oneness. Lisa¹s guidance has helped me come home to that sweet soft space of peace during difficult times."

Temoshok developed the CD specifically to create a relaxation experience that is accessible to anyone. "Through this yoga nidra CD, I hope to offer others a chance to experience the deeply transformative power of this practice. It is designed to be beneficial to those who have never tried yoga, as well as experienced yoga students. Yoga nidra is appropriate for anyone in any physical condition. It requires nothing except an open mind and a willing spirit," she explains.

The CD is also unusual—and attractive—in its simplicity. "I wanted "Sacred Awakening" to be organic and natural. It was recorded in one take and there are no background sounds or music. It's just my voice," Temoshok says.

It's the smooth and relaxing quality of Temoshok's speaking and singing voice that prompted the yoga instructor's students to request a CD. "It happened by chance. I was teaching a yoga class and started to incorporate some singing into the practice. From then on, I noticed changes in how the students responded to the class; they were more relaxed, more focused on the moment," Temoshok recalls. "Soon, my students were asking if I had a CD that they could use for a home practice."

After careful consideration of the elements to include and the type of practice that would fulfill the need for relaxation in everyday life, Temoshok began developing and producing "Sacred Awakening."

"As a culture, we are under so much pressure to live hard and fast. This CD is a gentle approach that can offer a profound release and sense of peace," Temoshok says.
